A famous chalk figure in the UK is getting a “glow-up” to help it survive bad weather. The National Trust says the well-known, somewhat “rude” chalk drawing has been losing its brightness because rain can gradually wash chalk away. When that happens, the image becomes harder to see and the edges can blur.
To prevent further fading, National Trust staff and volunteers will apply 17 tonnes of fresh chalk. The team will rework the figure’s outline with careful, deliberate coverage, restoring the contrast and making the shape stand out again. This is not a one-time fix; chalk art needs regular maintenance to remain legible over time.
The update is expected to be done soon, so visitors can continue to enjoy the landmark figure in clear form, even as the weather changes. The effort highlights how public heritage sometimes depends on ongoing, hands-on care.
