Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) returned to normal operations after sheltering during an air-leak repair attempt. The issue began when a leak was detected in the tunnel area of the station. A Russian team then tried to repair the problem, but the effort required extra caution. As a result, the crew activated the ISS “safe-haven” procedure. Five other astronauts moved into a designated protected area while the repair work continued, reducing their exposure to any sudden changes in air pressure or air quality. After the repair was completed and checks showed that the station’s environment was stable, the astronauts came out of shelter and resumed their planned activities. The event underscores the ISS safety culture: even small technical problems can demand rapid, coordinated responses, and crews rely on practiced emergency procedures to protect everyone on board.
